The term “curriculum” covers all the arrangements the school makes for student’s learning and development. It includes the content of courses, student activities, teaching approaches and the ways in which teachers and classes are organised. It also includes decisions on the need for and use of facilities. OLSH, in partnership with families provides a comprehensive education underpinned by the new Australian Curriculum which focuses on seven general capabilities (literacy, numeracy, information and communication technology competence, critical and creative thinking, ethical behaviour, personal and social competence and intercultural understanding) and three cross-curriculum priorities (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia and Sustainability). AusVELS is the Foundation to Year 10 curriculum. AusVELS incorporates the Australian Curriculum for English, Mathematics, History and Science within the curriculum framework first developed for the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS).
