Literacy

At Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, our literacy program is grounded in the Science of Reading and the Science of Learning. Through a structured literacy approach, students develop the essential knowledge and skills required to become confident readers, writers and communicators.

From Foundation to Year 6, students receive daily explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, syllables, morphology, syntax and semantics. Literacy learning is enriched through authentic connections across the curriculum, including Religious Education, Science, History, Geography and the Humanities, helping students build strong language skills alongside rich background knowledge.

Numeracy

Our numeracy program is delivered through the ORIGO Stepping Stones framework, providing students with a strong foundation in mathematical understanding, reasoning and problem-solving.

Students engage in meaningful, real-world learning experiences that develop conceptual understanding, strategic thinking and confidence with mathematics. Lessons combine hands-on learning with digital technology to maximise engagement and cater for a range of learning styles. Mathematics is taught daily in year-level classes, with a focus on developing every student's mathematical potential.
