Learning and Teaching Philosophy

At Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, we believe every child can learn, grow and succeed when given the right opportunities, support and encouragement.

As a Catholic school, we are committed to nurturing students’ faith and understanding of Catholic beliefs, values, traditions and practices. We also encourage students to learn about and respect the beliefs, cultures, perspectives and experiences of others, preparing them to contribute positively to an increasingly diverse world.

We believe students learn best in safe, inclusive and stimulating environments where they feel known, valued and supported. We recognise that every student is unique, with individual strengths, needs, interests and ways of learning. Our teaching responds to these differences and provides opportunities for every student to be challenged, engaged and successful.

We provide a high-quality, evidence-informed curriculum that develops students’ knowledge, skills, confidence and independence. We use assessment and student learning data to understand progress, identify needs and inform our teaching. We set high expectations for every learner and support students to achieve their personal best.

Our staff are committed, reflective and passionate educators who build strong, respectful relationships with students, families and the wider community. We continually reflect on and develop our practice to ensure our teaching is purposeful, responsive and effective.

We see teaching as a privilege and a shared journey. We work alongside our students, encouraging curiosity, celebrating progress, supporting challenges and inspiring a lifelong love of learning.
